ASCII TABLOSU

      İlk başta sadece büyük harfler ve sayılar dahil edildi, Daha sonra 1967'de küçük harfler ve bazı kontrol karakterleri de eklendi, Belirlenen karakterler US-ASCII olarak bilinen tabloyu oluşturdu, yani 0 ila 127 karakterlerini oluşturdu. Örneğin bu tarihlerde Fortran Programlama dilinin büyük karakterlerle kodlandığını görebiliriz.
1967'de standart olarak yalnızca 128 karakterden oluşan bu setle, İngilizce olarak yazılması gereken her şeyin yazılması sağlamıştır.

   1981'de IBM tarafından, "kod sayfası 437" adlı 8 bitlik ASCII kodunun devamını geliştirdi. Bu sürümde bazı grafik karakterler, bazı eski kontrol karakterlerinin yerini aldı. Ayrıca yeni semboller, işaretler, grafikler ve latin harfleri, tüm noktalama işaretleri ve İspanyolca, Türkçe gibi diğer dillerde metin yazmak için gereken karakterlerle birlikte 128 karakter daha eklendi.
Bu şekilde 128 ila 255 arasında değişen yeni ASCII karakterleri oluşmuş oldu. Bu karaktertere ingilizce olarak "Extended Character Set" şeklinde ifade edilir.

      IBM, ilk kişisel bilgisayar olarak kabul edilen ve "IBM-PC" olarak bilinen 5150 modelinin donanımında genişletilmiş ASCII kod karakterleri için destekteklemeye başlamıştır. Bu modelin işletim sistemi olan "MS-DOS" da bu genişletilmiş ASCII kodunu kullanmıştır.
Günümüzde neredeyse tüm bilgisayar sistemleri karakterleri ve metinleri temsil etmek için ASCII kodunu kullanmaktadır.

Asci Tabloda 0 dan 32 olan karakterler kontrol karakterleridir. Ekrana yazdırılamaz. İşlemciler için belirli bir takım işlevleri yerine getirirler. Örneğin, desimali 0 karakter boşluk ifade eder, 24 iptal anlamına gelir.

24 (İptal) ikili tabanda karşılığı '11000' olarak bulabiliriz. Bilgisayarda iptal komutu için ikili tabanda 11000 değeri işlendiğinde herhangi bir kontrol mekanizmasını iptal eder.
